Conference Mission

To address efforts to coordinate “best practices” of African American History/ Studies Infusion, Teacher Development, and Achievement Gap concerns through a collaborative endeavor with various agencies, institutions and stake-holders.

Conference Objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify and develop useful strategies for the infusion of African American history/ studies within current SC Academic Standards.

  • Participants will be able to collaborate to learn strategies for curriculum development/integration.

  • Participants will create professional develop-ment activities that will address student learning and student achievement

Target Audience

“Promising Practices in African American Studies across the Curriculum” will attract a diverse audience from the State of South Carolina. Specifically, the Conference will target:

  • Primary and secondary school teachers
  • Professors of higher education
  • School administrators
  • Members of boards of education
  • Community organizations and stakeholders
